The Escalating Constitutional Crisis
This constitutional crisis has
been escalating since the Cold War ended but concession-tenders for the Anglo-American
overclass in both parties decided to keep it going anyway. They had done
so since the Civil War and through the Great, World, and Cold Wars. Bi-partisan
concession-tending was all they – for a long time including me -- know how
to do!
- One
faction of Trotskyites (established academics, Jewish, well-heeled) switched
from the Democratic to the Republican Party. The other, LaRouchites (dis-established,
Germanophile, hermetic), moved from the GOP to the Democratic Party. This
was a tiny, almost “butterfly”, effect, but I happened to be
in a position to notice it even at the time. It was not big, but it is
important. - White
racists had already left the Democratic Party to support George WALLACE
and Ronald REAGAN but re-organized as a “pro-life”, albeit
curiously eugenic, “warrior”, “home schooling”, “survivalist”,
and other “self-improvement” cults that rallied to the NeoCons
and Darbyites in support of the Clash of Civilizations
sub-narrative to the “End of Days”.
From this move, they got a sort of
intellectual-social standing – from Newt GINGRICH, a junior-college
history teacher – that they had lost in a Democratic Party controlled by snotty
liberal elitists from much better schools. This was plain as day to any liberal
Democrat in Texas, even me.
- All
these developments were initially somewhat disconcerting and embarrassing to
the GOP wing of the Anglo-American overclass: religiously modest
anglophiles, socially and sexually liberal, merely wealthy or reputably credentialed
from generation to generation. Still, these rare “Moderate
Republicans” dearly loved the idea and actuality of a Republican “base
vote” – styled the “Emerging Republican Majority”
-- that could realize the pet economic agenda of a few wealthy families or
concession-holders going back to, well, 1800 – “Federalists”,
they called themselves then and now.
Of these three political factions,
only the second group of middle-class voters – variously called the
Reagan Democrats or even Christian Right -- ever had any use for our federal or
state constitution. They cling to a narrow, but practical, interpretation of
the Second Amendment and ferociously resist what they are told by our foreign-owned
tabloid and corporate media is a plot by the “liberal media” to
establish something other than theirs as the official religion of the United
States. But, that is winding down as the entire middle-class is devastated and
the economic discrimination behind all forms of racism becomes more evident
every day. The morale of the Republican base-voter is crumbling and their
genuine moral and material instincts are pointing away from providing votes and
cannon-fodder for the GOP elite.
Both the high-level campaign of military
Keynesianism – including deregulation and privatization
– and the low-level campaign of disinformation since 1992 have
largely succeeded in (a) subverting the Clinton Administration, (b) electing
and sustaining the Republican Revolution of 1994 and the Cheney Regency since 2000,
and, now, (c) rendering the “Democratic Congress” of 2006 feckless
and disreputable. By any measure, not just legal standards, the peace and
prosperity of the republic is being undermined both by the GOP and the
Vichy/Enron Democrats.
That is pretty discouraging, but
here are some signs of hope:
- The
Anglo-American overclass is not a moral or military nobility. They
are aesthetically unoriginal but more ostentatious that they ought to be. In
any case, they have now lost the wars they declared against drugs, crime,
and terror. They are not fit to rule, and that fact is not lost on up to
about 70% of the population eligible to vote. - Not
just the constitution, but just about everything is in crisis. Both wings
of the Anglo-American overclass are too complicit and complacent to
resolve, fix, or maintain much of anything. Behind retreat into unctuous or
jingoistic, in all events, empty rhetoric, they are seeking immunity, haven,
or retirement – some sort of exit at every new revelation of their gross
failure. - Meanwhile,
ordinary Americans are not paralyzed: They are far more inquisitive,
energetic, courageous and both more liberal and more conservative than
their self-serving, self-perpetuating, and self-self congratulatory
rulers.
How
do we take advantage of what I see as historic political opportunities to
restore and intellectual resources to strengthen our federal, state, and local constitutions
– the local constitutions being home rule and other charters?
- Net-roots
political organizing – the foundation of robust,
platform-driven political campaigns – is cheaper and more effective
than mass-media or direct-mail campaigns. The easiest targets are
political operatives elected at the precinct level and party executives
selected in county, district, and state conventions. Whining about these
people is disgusting, considering that they are easy to knock off. - Pervasive
digital networks – specifically, digital authentication
resources consistent with the Seven Laws of Identity -- provide a
foundation for rebuilding the social infrastructure of a strong political
party such as ex-Confederate states have never had. - Finally,
the blogosphere is beginning to demonstrate effectiveness in
party and public affairs sufficient to support both a popular and
progressive movement with the Democratic Party and the nation at large.
These three are sufficient to
dominate the 2008 State Convention in Austin, Texas. That – not the
bankrupt party office in Austin – is the highest authority in the Democratic
Party of Texas. That convention needs to be the sole focus of progressive
populists in this state today. It can be of momentous world-historical
importance.

DVO Speaks Out –
The Escalating Constitutional Crisis
On Friday, August 3, 2007,
the House and Senate, both under Democratic leadership, enacted a bill that
gives the egomaniacal president and vice president one of their fondest
desires, to be able to wiretap Americans' electronic communications without
warrants describing specifically the places to be searched and objects of the
search as the Fourth Amendment requires. In normal times we would have been
able to assume the federal courts would surely invalidate such a bill on
constitutional grounds. However, with John Roberts Bush and Samuel Alito Bush
having joined Anton and Clarence on the Supreme Court, we cannot indulge in
such an assumption. I am sure glad the brave and noble seven Democratic
Senators saved the right to filibuster judicial nominees so they would have an
excuse not to deny Bush his appointees. I am sure glad we busted our tails for
Nick Lampson and Ciro Rodriguez so they could help the Bushites bust the
Constitution. I am sure glad the people elected a Democratic majority to the
House so that Nancy Pelosi could whine about Bush vetoes - when in this case it
was not necessary to pass anything.
The hell
with them all. I'm sick to death of their prevaricating and excuse-making. We
already had a Senate and House full of Bushite Republican lemmings who had
spent six solid years betraying the Constitution. Millions of Americans were
full of high hopes that the changes in leadership of the House and Senate that
took place in November 2006 would finally give the Constitution a fighting
chance. Yet the Bushite Police State and Bushite War have continued without
skipping a beat.
Party
loyalty should never, ever trump the Bill of Rights of the American
people. The Constitution is the special possession of all the
American people; not just Democrats, not just Republicans, and not even just
people who vote in most elections. We are in a time of acute domestic crisis in
which the Constitution is under relentless assault by the gangster members of
an ongoing criminal conspiracy masquerading as our government. In this time of
crisis the Constitution and the public good – not political game boarding
- must become every citizen’s foremost consideration. Speaking as a
lifelong Democrat, I say that every damned one of the Democratic traitors to
the Constitution who have continued to vote more police-state power to Cheney
and Bush need to be challenged in the Democratic Primary by Fighting Democrats
who will exercise steel spines on behalf of our Constitution. Speaking to
my fellow citizens and friends in the Republican Party, I implore you to do the
same in your Primary.
Oh yes,
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Democratic Senate Campaign
Committee – keep your whining, sniveling solicitations away from my
door.
