[davidvanosfortexasag] Robert Reich Can we get through it ???
With a Democratic Congress today
and the prospect of a Democratic victory in 2008, it is not very useful to
rehash history and look back vindictively on a question like this.
David SIROTA is being very
critical in real time of the present Congress and Jamie GALBRAITH is
looking ahead very perceptively. There are differences in their view, but both
are reliably progressive and neither is particularly tied up in the
Clinton/Greenspan worldview. I have Jamie’s agreement, but I do not know
how to contact SIROTA.
I hope that the PPC will sponsor a
statewide event this fall – The Austin Progressive Trade Summit –
featuring these two lodestones I expect to be pillars of the Next American
Nation.
Please send give me your thoughts and
help me out on this on this.

I have been getting audio books(books on CD) for long road
trips. I read very slowly, especially if it is something as dry
as this. Right now, in my car, I am listening to:
Overthrow: America's Century of Regime Change from Hawaii to
Iraq
It is a book that I probably would never finish, if I tried
to read it. But as an audio book, I will get through the whole thing
and probably get more out of it. The book is fascinating. I
really am learning quite a bit about our history. It has all of the dirty
little behind the scenes details we didn't hear about in history class.
Unfortunately, my son has had to listen, too, and is
bored out of his mind. :-)
Sincerely,
Amy Manuel

I'm not
saying turning the other cheek. Reading a book has nothing to do with liking or
not liking or endorsing or opposing the author's actions. It's a matter of not
cutting oneself off from the churn of ideas. There's plenty of books I don't
read because I don't have time to get to them, but I would still have liked to,
and that includes a lot of authors whose actions are repulsive to me. I
probably won't get to Reich's book myself. But it won't be because I don't like
his participation in formulating the Clinton policies that encouraged the
corporate globalists. I would still be interested in what his book might
stimulate for me in the churn of thoughts and ideas. I wish I had time to read
one of Ann Coulter's books to try to understand better what the deal is
with popularized neofascist philosophy.

Good point, David, but I don't read the books
of other non-repentant globalization champions, so why should I risk wasting my
time turning the other cheek to Reich? He sure as hell has not repented. That
means to me that he wouldn't mind being considered a supporter of the DLC.1c.

Robert Reich Re: Can we get through it ???Whenever I saw Robert Reich on TV
expressing his views or debating others he made a lot of sense to me. I have
not read any of his books. He impressed me as of such high degree of knowledge
& intelligence to jusify an ego but an ego motivation was not apparent to
me.I'm shocked at your opinion of his
views and don't understand your opinion. Guess I need to read his books for
understanding.Jerry Lobdill < href="mailto:lobdillj%40charter.net" target="_blank"> net>
