Dem alternate judges are needed in many precincts. Contact Martha at HCDP to
see if your precinct is on the list.

Judges must be registered voters and residents of the precinct. Prior
election experience is strongly encouraged. Judges are appointed by the
County Commissioners. Training is required in election administration and
e-Slate operation. Presiding judges hire clerks, pick up supplies the
weekend before the election, set up polls the night before the election,
turn in materials when polls close. Both judges must remain at the polling
location during election hours 7am to 7pm. Pay is $7.50/hr plus a bonus for
training. Reliable transportation is a must.

Election clerks:
While presiding judges locate their own clerks, many turn to HCDP for
assistance. We especially need clerks who can step in at the last minute.
Clerks must be registered voters and residents of Harris County. Pay is
$6/hr. On Election Day, nearly 7,000 election clerks will be working in
Harris County.

Language assistants:
Most of the polls in Harris County will be required to have either a Spanish
speaker, Vietnamese speaker, or both. Pay is $6/hr. Same requirements as
clerks: registered voters, residents of Harris County.

Early Voting Ballot Board:
There are 20 slots on this board. This group verifies signatures on ballots
by mail. They work in teams of two, a Dem and a Rep. EVBB workers must be
registered voters in Harris County. This is mostly a clerical job. Lots of
sitting and good eyesight is a must. You will be paid $6/hr.

This year the EVBB will meet downtown, in the Harris County Administration
Building, 1001 Preston. You will be reimbursed up to $8/ day if you pay for
parking.

Appointees must be able to attend every session if possible. If you have
already agreed to serve as an election judge, please keep that commitment.

Tentative Schedule:
Monday-Saturday, October 30-November 4*: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, November 5*: 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Poll Watchers:
These volunteers are assigned to a poll where problems are expected or sent
to a poll after a complaint has been reported. They are official observers
who report any suspect activity to HCDP. Poll Watchers do not interfere with
the election staff or assist them in any way. Must be registered voters and
residents of Harris County. Poll Watcher training will be offered at HCDP
before the election.
